How to Miter a Corner
Mitring corners of fabric where you are creating hems, gives a professional, neat
edge without obvious bulk of fabric. Here's how:
Fold over the first hem along one edge. Press in place.
Fold over the other hem (that is at right angles to the first hem) along the edge of the fabric. Press the edges.
Fold the material inwards again along each raw edge hemline and press and unfold this second
fold.
Turn the corner in diagonally towards the back of the fabric. See that the crease of the
diagonal fold lines up along the corner of the hemline crease.
Leaving about half a centimeter from the crease line, cut off the corner of the fabric. This reduces
your fabric bulk.
Turn in both hems once more along the hemline crease.
See that your diagonals on both fabric edges line up. Pin and press.
Slipstitch the diagonals together and the remaining hem seams to secure.
You will have a perfectly flat, mitered corner.
